Emmett McLean is a founder, executive vice president, and chief operating officer of Medical Properties Trust, Inc., a publicly traded healthcare real estate investment trust. Prior to joining Medical Properties Trust, Emmett worked in the health care services industry, serving in senior financial positions with two different companies, including chief financial officer at one of the companies. He also spent time as a consultant and private investor. Before his corporate career, Emmett worked in investment banking and corporate finance with Dean Witter Reynolds (now Morgan Stanley) and Smith Barney (now Citigroup), handling numerous corporate financings, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. Emmett began his career in the commercial banking industry with Trust Company Bank (now SunTrust Bank). Emmett earned a B.A. in economics from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. Emmett is a member of the board of directors of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama and Smile-A-Mile. In addition, he has chaired several charitable fundraising events in the greater Birmingham metro area.
