Since February 2017, Otto Bitterli has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors (“Verwaltungsratspräsident”) of Sanitas Beteiligungen AG. After studying Political Science at the University of St. Gallen, Otto worked in the health policy and medical tariffs field at the Swiss Insurance Association. Starting from 1993, he held various positions at Winterthur Insurance, one of which was Director. Since 2002, Otto has worked for Sanitas in different roles, including serving as the Head of Marketing and overseeing the Risk Management Department. In 2004 and 2005, he developed a new strategy for Sanitas and was CEO from June 2005 to February 2017. During this time, he led a successful restructuring, the acquiring and integration of Wincare Insurance (consolidation of sites, IT migration), and the rollout of a new carrier for cost-conscious customers. In 2011 and 2012, Otto established a new unit with more than 150 employees for private clients in Bern. In 2012, he also led the digital transformation in the Sales Department, which included establishing e-marketing with SEA and SEO and e-sales. In 2014, he oversaw the launch of Sanitas 3.0, which makes use of advanced analytics and offers customers digital products, including an app and online customer portal. In 2015, he successfully outsourced the IT Department. Additionally, Otto has published numerous scientific papers, is involved in several associations, and is president of the Ausschuss Kranken- und Unfallversicherungen des Schweizerischen Versicherungsverbandes (SVV).
