Ilian Grigorov has been a founder and a CEO of City Clinic in Bulgaria and subsequently a CEO of Acibadem City Clinic, the largest integrated healthcare system in Bulgaria and one of the leading providers in Eastern Europe. From 2010 to 2017, City Clinic grew from an idea to becoming the largest healthcare operator in Bulgaria and among the top 5 healthcare operators in Eastern Europe consisting of 4 hospitals and several clinics with a total number of more than 800 beds. The group has been serving about 1 million patients a year and admitting close to 100,000 hospital patients a year. In 2017, Ilian has founded Darzalas Capital and is in process of raising the largest dedicated healthcare services fund for Central and Southeast Europe. Darzalas Health Fund will invest in healthcare services providers across the continuum ranging from primary care clinics to rehab and nursing homes. Ilian has a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota, Master’s in Finance from University of Amsterdam and college degree in Finance and Economics from University of National and World Economy in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has completed post-graduate trainings in some of the leading academic and healthcare institutions around the world including Harvard Business School, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, University of California Berkeley, Kaiser Permanente, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Kind’s Fund, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is a frequent speaker on healthcare management, healthcare policy and Health IT at international conferences. Prior to moving to healthcare Ilian worked for nearly 10 years at Soros, where he was a member of the management team of Southeast Europe Equity Fund I and II two private equity growth capital funds for Southeast Europe and Turkey with combined capital of $520 million. SEEF I was one of the best performing private equity funds in emerging markets, with investments in investing in various industries including telecommunications, cable, media, food, financial services. Ilian started his career in M&A advisory in BDO Corporate Finance and later in KPMG Corporate Finance. Ilian has held directorship positions in more than 20 companies.
